You might need to go to Bios and change HDD configurations from Raid to non-Raid

Installs fine in VMware 9 under Linux on a Phenom T1100 workstation. It reports itself as Windows XP Professional x64 Edition 2003 Service Pack 1. Windows Update doesn't work, but this is no surprise since MS continually changes their web site, breaking things like Windows Update for all their products. I downloaded SP2 from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17791 , which installs and upgrades this version to SP2.

Looks like a good copy. My daughter refuses to use any MS product newer than XP (doesn't want to waste her time learning a new and more confusing UI), so thanks!
